Delta’s Winter Relaunch of Daily Flights to Africa

Delta is bolstering its position as the top U.S. airline for flights to Africa this winter by resuming daily flights from New York-JFK to Lagos, Nigeria (LOS), starting December 1, 2024. The airline’s services to Accra, Ghana (ACC), and South Africa are also set to receive fleet upgrades.

With more than half a million customers traveling between the U.S. and Africa annually, Delta operates over 34 weekly flights on these routes. Joe Esposito, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, emphasized the airline’s focus on meeting customers’ evolving needs. He stated that the airline is expanding its flight options to offer customers the high-quality service they expect.

Service Enhancements and Daily Flights to Nigeria

Delta already operates daily flights between Atlanta and Lagos, and with the addition of daily service from New York-JFK, the airline will have 14 weekly flights to Nigeria during December 2024 and into mid-January 2025. After this peak season, Delta will continue to operate 10 weekly flights for the rest of winter 2024.

Upgrades to Ghana and South Africa Services

Delta’s commitment to service in Ghana and South Africa includes aircraft upgrades and increased capacity. As the leading U.S. carrier to Ghana, Delta offers year-round daily flights from New York-JFK. In late October 2024, the airline plans to upgrade the aircraft on this route to the 281-seat Airbus A330-900neo, providing 30% more capacity. This upgrade includes Delta One Suites with sliding doors for privacy, memory-foam mattresses, and premium bedding.

Delta is also updating its aircraft for the Atlanta to South Africa route, which provides 10 weekly flights year-round to Johannesburg (JNB) and Cape Town (CPT). The Airbus A350-900 upgrade will be available from June 20, 2024, for Johannesburg and September 9, 2024, for Cape Town. This change brings eight additional Delta One Suite seats, offering a total of 40, and enhances operational performance.
