EasyJet Inks Deal for 157 New Airbus Aircraft

EasyJet and Airbus have a preliminary agreement for 157 new A320neo Family aircraft. This is part of the airline’s plan to phase out its A319-100 planes and replace about half of the still-in-service A320-200s.

Details of the Agreement

The tentative deal includes 56 A320neos and 101 A321neos. The airline also has an option for 100 more purchase rights. The aircraft will have CFM International LEAP-1A engines. Deliveries are set to start after October 1, 2028, and finish by September 30, 2034.

EasyJet says that delivery slots for narrow-body aircraft with around 200 seats are limited until at least 2029. This limitation is expected to last into 2030 and beyond. So, by making this order, easyJet is making sure it has future delivery slots between the fiscal years 2029 and 2034. This helps the airline keep its current size by replacing older aircraft and also lets EasyJet carry out its growth strategy.

The Role of A321neo and Existing Orders

The A321neo aircraft is important for EasyJet. The airline will use these planes to add more seats and make more money, especially in airports where slots are hard to get or on longer routes that people want. This new order adds to an existing order for 158 A320neo family aircraft. After this new deal, the order will have 90 A320neo and 68 A321neo planes.
