If they were given a chance to choose one airline to be a cabin crew for, many Filipino cabin crew aspirants chose Emirates. This is based on a recent survey I conducted. Among all the choices of airlines that hire flight attendants in the Philippines including local airlines, Emirates was the choice of 27% of our respondents.
Coming in in the second spot is Philippine Airlines at 24% and then followed by Qatar Airways at 17%.
Emirates is known for having one of the world’s widest international network with a strong fleet of more than 100 Airbus A380 jets.
My question for this survey is “given a chance to choose one airline to be a flight attendant for, what would that be?”
Why Emirates?
It came as no surprise that Emirates will be the choice of the majority of cabin crew aspirants, leading PAL by just a slim margin. Why then Emirates?
Well first, Emirates is based in Dubai, which is the most open city in the Middle East with a cosmopolitan chic lifestyle. Unlike other Middle East cities and countries that are more conservative, there is just so much to do in Dubai. For young people, Dubai perfectly suits their lifestyle with so many shopping centers, attractions, and entertainment spots.
Second, Emirates utilizes a fleet of 253 aircraft where 119 of them are Airbus A380s equipped with showers, spas, and even a lounge. For our aspirants, just being on an A380 regularly is something they do wish that they can always experience.
Third, among all Middle East carriers, Emirates seems to be the most liberated. While of course, they continue to maintain a very high standard, Emirates allows their flight attendants to go on social media to post pictures of them at work, provided they follow company guidelines when posting.
Last but not least, let’s not discount the compensation Emirates has for their flight attendants.
Philippine Airlines falls in second followed by Qatar Airways
Falling in second place is Philippine Airlines, the country’s flag carrier. Being a PAL flight attendant carries a certain prestige, given the fact that it is not easy to be part of the airline. At the same time, PAL has the widest international network among all airlines in the Philippines with flights to as far as New York.
We cannot also discount the fact that PAL offers a very attractive compensation. It is not for me to discuss the exact figures or to compare them to other airlines, but the compensation is enough to give the cabin crew a very comfortable lifestyle. Of course, this also depends on their spending habits. Add also the retirement benefits and other benefits in store for PAL flight attendants.
Third,, flight attendants of PAL get to fly to many international destinations while being based in the Philippines at the same time. I think this is also a big plus as to why many aspirants chose PAL.
