It might seem odd, but plane ticket prices can vary a lot based on different factors. Seasonality

The time of year you choose to travel can greatly affect the price of your plane ticket. During peak travel seasons, such as summer or major holidays, flight demand goes up, and so do ticket prices. In some countries, like the Philippines, specific times like Holy Week or Labor Day can cause a spike in prices. But during quieter travel periods, airlines may offer discounted fares to attract travelers. Keep in mind that unique factors like festivals, events, or weather conditions at your destination can also sway flight prices.

Fuel Prices are a Major Player

Fuel prices have a significant impact on the operational costs of airlines. When fuel prices go up, airlines often increase ticket prices to offset the extra cost. On the other hand, when fuel prices go down, airlines may pass on the savings to customers through cheaper fares. Predicting fuel price movements can be challenging due to various influences like geopolitical situations and supply and demand dynamics.

Bagging the Best Fares

More information can be found here, but in case you are wondering what I do, here’s what I do to bag good fares, especially when I fly LCCs. I travel during off-peak seasons if possible. Avoiding holiday periods and popular vacation months often leads to lower flight prices. Typically, these are the months of February to the first week of March and June to around August, when demand is lower.

I also opt for midweek flights if possible. Weekday flights, particularly those on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, are generally cheaper compared to weekends, when travel demand tends to be higher. By Tuesday afternoon, rival airlines had usually matched or adjusted their prices accordingly. Another strategy I use is to choose red-eye or early-morning flights. Less popular departure times, such as overnight or early morning flights, are usually cheaper due to lower demand.
