Go and apply, even if you doubt that you will become a cabin crew

Some aspirants ask me if they should still apply as cabin crew for a specific airline even if they are under the height requirement, and so on. My response is always a resounding “yes, go ahead and apply because you never know what might happen; who knows, you might become a cabin crew on that very same day.”

If you try, there is no such thing as “sayang ang oras.” What’s worse is not trying at all and then giving up. Finally, do not anticipate the outcome of your application. Unless you have the gift of foresight, go ahead and apply.

Every attempt will teach you something new. If you take these lessons constructively, they will make you better and better. After a certain number of attempts, you are finally a flight attendant. In any case, the number of attempts you made will have no bearing on your cabin crew career, no matter how minor.

Even if you doubt yourself, go an apply

Amalia Mayari is a 5’1″ Cebu Pacific flight attendant. Prior to Cebu Pacific, she flew for PALexpress until she was retrenched as a result of the pandemic. Amalia did share that even though she had huge doubts about getting in due to her height, she still applied. Eventually, she got in! Despite her height, the airlines saw something in her of great strength, the way she communicates, and her confidence level.

Furthermore, Amalia earned her wings twice at two different airlines. There are no connections, no backers, and no “palakad.” All she did was play to her strengths, which were her good looks, confidence, and English speaking abilities.

Amalia was unsure at first, but she persevered. She had her own reservations, but she still applied to the airline. She was aware that she might not be accepted, but Amalia insisted on continuing to apply.

Stop listening to people who will discourage you

When in doubt, the last people you want to talk to are those who are negative. They are the ones who are likely to discourage you from following your dreams. They will tell you, “sayang lang ang oras mo,” implying that you have not yet tried. Things only go to waste if you keep trying but don’t make a positive change. All the more everything goes to waste if you do not try.

So, even if you are unsure, please go ahead and apply. Congratulations if you make it! If not, make changes and try again!
