Improving Your Chances of Becoming a Flight Attendant this 2025

“This 2025, I will become a flight attendant.” This is what I have been hearing from flight attendant aspirants as we welcome the new year. It is a new year’s resolution for most of them. The timing is just right because I am forecasting that more airlines will be hiring more flight attendants, not only globally but from the Philippines as well. As such, allow me to offer you some tips and advice to help you increase your chances of becoming a flight attendant this 2025.

Have a Clear Purpose

One of the most common questions that airline cabin crew recruiters will ask is, “Why do you want to become a flight attendant?” The best way to answer this is to first have a clear purpose as to why you want to become a cabin crew member. Becoming a flight attendant this 2025 is not about free travel and living a glamorous career. It is about service to your passengers; hence, you must already embrace service for others before even thinking of becoming a cabin crew member. Not only will having a clear purpose for service affect your answer, but it will also help build you throughout your flying career. Do not forget that being a flight attendant is not as glamorous as social media portrays it to be. There is also a lot of “dirty work” and challenges behind what social media shows you.

Apply and Apply Until You Make It

In other words, do not give up. However, this does not mean that applying and applying countless times will guarantee you a cabin crew job. It also depends on the quality of every attempt. You have to be better and better in each and every attempt. Every failure is a chance to learn from your mistakes and become better. I have met present cabin crew members who attempted 17 times and made it in on the 18th. I have a video of that. So as long as you do not give up, learn, and become better with every attempt, you are increasing your chances of becoming a cabin crew member this 2025.

Do Not Memorize Your Answers

Airline cabin crew recruiters can detect if you merely memorized your answers or if you are talking from the heart. Always remember that these recruiters observe you from the point of view of a passenger, and they can tell if you are speaking from the heart or if you sound robotic. Always speak from the heart with integrity. Do not memorize your answers. Memorizing your answers diminishes your chances of becoming a flight attendant this 2025.

Say Something Different

When airline recruiters ask you, “Tell me something about yourself,” avoid sharing whatever is on your resume. Instead, say something about yourself that will catch the attention of your recruiter. Saying your name, what course you finished, your previous job, and whatever is in your resume will bore your recruiter. You have to catch their attention immediately. I remember one cabin crew recruitment event that I observed. A female applicant said, “I am still a virgin, and I intend to keep that until I get married.” Her answer immediately caught the recruiter’s attention, and the recruiter engaged the applicant in a conversational manner. The applicant spoke as though she was sharing a story, where she shared her personal beliefs and values. It got everyone else smiling because the applicant was bubbly too. In the end, she made it to the next round and later secured the job. The point here was not about the virgin thing but about how the applicant answered the question. She said something unique about herself, caught the recruiter’s attention, and expressed herself clearly and confidently.

Practice Your Communication Skills

Becoming a flight attendant is also a communication job because you will need to effectively explain emergency procedures and briefings to your passengers. Your passengers also have to understand you well. You must also be able to understand your passengers’ needs and address them properly. You must be understood by passengers, despite language barriers at times. This is why it is important for all cabin crew aspirants to practice their communication skills. Read books, talk to more people, and join conversations. Do not always glue your eyes to your mobile devices during gatherings. Strike conversations with everyone, and read books. This will help build your communication skills.

Build Your Confidence Level

Passengers can sense if you are lacking confidence when they interact with you. If they feel you lack confidence, they may hesitate to entrust their safety to you. They may even end up bullying you. This is why it is important for flight attendants to develop a high level of confidence, but not to the point of being cocky. You must have that confidence because passengers will trust that you know what you are doing. It will also build your professionalism. With confidence, passengers will respect you more, especially when you have to implement safety regulations. Recruiters also check your confidence level during interviews, as this is very important in becoming a cabin crew member.

Leave Your Ego Behind

Even if you have achieved so much in life, have a huge bank account, or are related to a high-profile individual in the airline, when you apply, you are starting as a nobody. Airline recruiters usually do not care about your status in life. All they care about is whether you can effectively perform the job of a flight attendant and be an asset to the airline. They do not want any “ate Chonas” or “ma-attitude” crew members in the roster. If you have gained experience as a cabin crew member from another airline, remember that you will be starting as a junior in a new airline. No matter which airline you came from, even if it is the world’s best airline, you will still be treated as a newbie in your new airline, regardless of whether it is another full-service airline or a low-cost carrier. Hence, you cannot impose too much on your recruiters by claiming they have to hire you because of your previous airline. Instead, approach them humbly and show that you are ready to unlearn and relearn.

Integrity is Everything

During interviews and even in your resume, do not hide anything, like previous jobs. This is why I highly discourage anyone from going AWOL because it would be hard to hide this. Airlines have access to shared databases, and with today’s technology, they can check your previous employment records through government agencies. Always tell the truth. Airline recruiters have ways to detect dishonesty. Integrity is everything, so always remember that.

I hope these tips will help you in your quest to become a flight attendant this 2025! I will have more tips and advice in the following months. Good luck to all cabin crew aspirants!
