Important flight attendant facts they wish they could tell you

If flight attendants were allowed to tell you things you needed to know, they would, but they are not, especially when on board the aircraft. They actually have quite a list, and they are delighted that I am willing to say it for them. So here are thirty flight attendant facts that they wish they could tell you. These are from various flight attendants and stewards from various airlines around the world, and I’d like to keep their names anonymous so they don’t get in trouble.

Flight attendant facts they wish they could tell you

  • We are here not to lift your luggage up the bin, especially if you can do it yourself. We will only assist those who need help. Don’t also complain if we decline your demand to lift your bag, especially if we see that you are fit to do it. Your bag, your responsibility.
  • Please learn to respect your fellow passengers
  • Do not take the seats of others. You have your own assigned seat so just sit there. You can never tell if the other passenger pre-paid his seat.
  • Please do not get mad at us if we tell you to remain seated while the fasten seatbelt sign is on. It is our duty to make sure you are safe.
  • We don’t mind that you don’t greet us back but it won’t also make you less of a person if you will.
  • I was one out of a thousands who applied, one out of less than a hundred who got in, and one out of 25 who survived the training. I sacrificed time with my family, I endured sleepless nights for months, I memorized a thousand pages and I had to ace every exam everyday while also  doing drills. It is totally unfair for you to judge us that all we do is to serve coffee or tea. Don’t wait for a water landing to happen just for you to know what our capabilities are.
  • We  are your life savers, your safety professionals, and your nurses on board.

  • Take it easy with the call bell. I will definitely approach you. Patience is a virtue. There are a hundred more passengers that I also serve.
  • After my flight, I go home to my family, I put food on the table, I spend time with my children, and I try my best to get enough sleep for the following day’s duties. I am also like you, working for a living. Let’s all be respectful to one another.
  • If we offer you chicken or beef, please do not ask for fish. Whatever is on the menu card or the choices we mention are all what we have. We are not a restaurant.
  • Please follow the fasten seatbelt sign at all times. Just because we are taxiing to the terminal, it doesn’t mean that nothing can happen.
  • There is a call bell button. No need to pull our uniform or to poke us. Some might mistaken it for sexual harassments and may end up reporting it to the captain.
  • There is nothing we can do about the weather.
  • Please be considerate to other passengers by making sure the lavatory is clean after you use it.
  • We also do not like delays, but it is something beyond our control.
  • If our flight gets diverted and we do not let you off the aircraft, don’t scream, threaten, or curse us. We are just following orders from ground security.
  • Please return our ballpens. If you can return money, what more of that. It may be just a ballpen but it’s still ours, and not yours.
  • Just press the call bell once because I will definitely attend to you. I might just be serving other passengers.
