With the gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions around the world, airlines are stepping up their services and launching new routes to cater to the surging demand for travel. In particular, Asian airlines are expanding their capacity and routes not only within Asia but also to Oceania and Europe.
Here are some of the latest updates from airlines around the world.
Emirates: More flights to Asia Pacific
Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has announced plans to boost its seat capacity in its northern summer schedule, which begins on March 26, 2023. The airline has already increased its operations by 31% since the start of its financial year, and plans to reintroduce services to five cities, launch flights to Tel Aviv, and add 251 weekly flights to existing routes. In addition, Emirates will relaunch its daily direct flight between Singapore and Melbourne, responding to strong travel demand. The airline will also reintroduce its A380 operations to several destinations including Glasgow, Casablanca, Beijing, and Kuala Lumpur.
Vietjet: Connecting Vietnam and Queensland
Vietnam’s leading low-cost carrier, Vietjet, will launch the first non-stop flights connecting Vietnam and Queensland, Australia, in June. The airline will operate twice-weekly services between Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane Airport, with Eco-Class fares starting from $AUD200 one-way (plus taxes and fees). The flights are predicted to inject $25.6 million into Queensland’s visitor economy and support 240 jobs in the first year of operation. According to Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff, the new route will enhance the airport’s role as a key Asia-Pacific gateway.
China Airlines: Direct flights from Taipei to Prague
China Airlines has announced direct flights from Taipei to Prague beginning on July 18, 2023. The airline will operate two flights per week, making it the only airline to fly directly between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. The flights will be carried out by the A350, which is configured with 32 Premium Business Class, 31 Premium Economy Class, and 243 Economy Class seats. The outbound flight will take off from Taoyuan Airport at 23:20 and arrive at 07:10 the following morning local time after a flight of 13 hours and 50 minutes. The return flight will take off at 11:05 local time and arrive at Taoyuan Airport at 05:35 the following morning after a flight of 12 hours and 30 minutes.
As the world continues to open up, we can expect to see more airlines announcing new routes and expanding their services. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or planning your first post-pandemic trip, keep an eye out for these exciting developments in the airline industry.
