More cargo operations to Zamboanga courtesy of AirAsia is happening

The pandemic has brought a stronger demand for the movement of goods throughout the country. Cargo operations are now playing an important role in the revival of the economy and of course the Philippine aviation industry. Just recently, AirAsia has launched cargo operations to Zamboanga City to help propel the city’s quick economic recovery.

This is on top of the increase in capacity to the city brought by the upshoot in travel demand. From twice a week when they opened the Manila – Zamboanga route, AirAsia will increase this to daily flights!

As for the cargo operations, AirAsia will commence this beginning June after they received more equipment to support such operations. These include x-ray machines and a bigger warehouse. Both increase in passenger capacity and cargo ops are seen to fly more than 200 tons of passengers and commercial cargo per month.

Such move is important in not just regular trade but for the e-commerce industry which has rapidly grew in the past two years. More cargo ops between Manila and Zamboanga will result to faster movement of goods.

Majority of the cargo requirements for Zamboanga City are marine products, which is roughly 90%.

“Zamboanga City is the gateway to the entire peninsula, making it a critical and strategic hub for any transport business. We hope that with the increased flight frequency and expanded cargo operations, we can continue  to aid in the growth of the city’s tourism and trade industries. We are confident that Zamboanga City, through the Zamboanga City International Airport, is poised to be a key  economic driver for the region as the country gears for post-pandemic recovery.”

Steve Dailisa, AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson

The addition of both cargo and passenger flights clearly show how fast the aviation industry is recovering. I hope that this continues on. No more lockdowns please!
