More than 7,000 flights on first week of FIFA World Cup 2022

The world is definitely on FIFA World Cup 2022 fever, especially for those who are able to fly to and from Doha to witness this massive global event. In fact, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) has recorded more than 7,000 flights to and from Doha on the first week of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Many of these flights are from neighboring Gulf countries such as the United Arab Emirates as there are not much hotels in Qatar to take in the number of visitors and fans.

That number though will soon be surpassed. As the FIFA World Cup progresses on which is now on its second week, the number of flights is now at 12,963 as of this writing. By the end of the week, this should go beyond 13,000.

FlyDubai is operating 120 flights daily between Dubai and Doha

Dubai-based low-cost airline FlyDubai is currently operating up to 120 flights a day between Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in Dubai and Doha International Airport (DIA). Shuttle flights from neighboring Arab countries have been operating to relieve pressure on Doha’s limited hotel accommodations.

DIA was recently reopened for the FIFA World Cup 2022 season until December. This is to provide additional capacity for shuttle flights from other countries as the Doha Hamad International Airport may not be able to completely take all flights entering the capital. Fourteen airlines are flying in and out of DIA, including FlyDubai.

Airlines continue to boost flights

Airline services to Doha are being expanded by Lufthansa, Air France, Finnair, and KLM. Charter flights from South America and Africa have also increased service to and from the Doha hub. Last November 17, Philippine Airlines increased its flights between Manila and Doha to daily flights.

Expect more flights from home countries as the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar progresses on. From now until December, Qatari aviation will be extremely busy.
