PAL Adopts SkyBreathe® OnBoard for Fuel Efficiency

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has taken a major step towards enhancing fuel efficiency by becoming the first Asian airline to adopt SkyBreathe® OnBoard. This user-friendly digital solution provides live assistance from the flight deck to increase fuel savings.

PAL has announced a partnership with OpenAirlines, a leading provider of fuel management solutions for airlines. This collaboration aligns with PAL’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. SkyBreathe® OnBoard, part of the SkyBreathe® eco-flying platform, utilizes advanced algorithms and real-time data from the world’s largest fuel-efficiency database. It aims to engage pilots in applying fuel-saving initiatives during flights.

SkyBreathe® OnBoard Features

SkyBreathe® OnBoard includes features like the integrated Direct Assistant, which offers pilots timely notifications for in-flight shortcut opportunities. These recommendations consider real-time flight constraints and direct routes granted by Air Traffic Control, aiming to save both fuel and time. This strategic implementation, along with other initiatives, is projected to yield 1% fuel savings per flight, ensuring a quick return on investment.

“Our dynamic partnership with OpenAirlines reinforces our commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the aviation ecosystem,” said Capt. Stanley K. Ng, PAL President & Chief Operating Officer. He noted that since starting with SkyBreathe® Analytics in 2022, PAL has achieved significant fuel savings and now looks to further improve operational performance with SkyBreathe® OnBoard.

Benefits and Future Prospects

Alexandre Feray, CEO of OpenAirlines, emphasized the value of this partnership, stating, “During the flight, pilots are busy performing many tasks, and it’s hard to know which, when, and how to apply fuel best practices. SkyBreathe® OnBoard results from years of dedicated R&D and collaboration with pilots to build an app that can push relevant and timely notifications on fuel-saving opportunities for good and quick decision-making without additional workload. We are honored that Philippine Airlines has become our first customer in Asia-Pacific to adopt SkyBreathe® OnBoard.”

As sustainability and efficiency become more crucial in the aviation sector, collaborations like the one between PAL and OpenAirlines show the potential of digital solutions to shape a greener future for air travel. PAL’s adoption of SkyBreathe® OnBoard signifies its role as a forward-thinking leader, committed to operational excellence and environmental responsibility.
