In a recent poll I conducted, asking people to vote for the best flight attendant uniforms of 2024, Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Emirates emerged as the top choices among readers. This was from a selection of 30 airline uniforms that I had pre-selected for this poll.
A total of 726 people cast their votes, with PAL receiving the highest percentage at 16.75%, followed closely by Emirates at 15.78%.
Philippine Airlines’ current flight attendant uniform, introduced in 2015, offers a modern take on the airline’s rich history and national identity. Based on the original design by Luis Marco R. Antonio in 1991, the women’s uniform features a flag blue suit with a single-button blazer over a front pleated ecru blouse and a patterned floral scarf. The imprinted flower is most likely a sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines. The men’s uniform consists of a similarly colored suit with a patterned tie. This uniform showcases a blend of professionalism, elegance, and a hint of Philippine cultural heritage.
The iconic Emirates cabin crew uniform, easily recognized by its beige and red color scheme, has seen subtle changes since its introduction in the early 2000s. The current design, launched in 2009 by Simon Jersey, aims for a sharper, more business-like appearance. The women’s outfit includes a tailored beige suit with a red hat and cream-colored scarf, folded into seven pleats to symbolize the seven emirates of the UAE. The design focuses on elegance and professionalism, reflecting the airline’s status as a global carrier.
Securing the third spot is Etihad, which, personally, is my favorite cabin crew uniform. Designed by the Italian fashion house Ettore Bilotta, the uniform emphasizes comfort and functionality for a modern, stylish look. The chocolate brown base color, a signature of Etihad, is complemented with deep purple for cabin crew and burnt orange for ground staff. The women’s uniform features a skirt suit with a detachable scarf adorned with a unique paisley design inspired by 1970s textiles. The men’s outfit includes a similar colored suit with a tie. This uniform is celebrated for its departure from traditional airline styles and its emphasis on representing a multicultural crew.
