In a recent development that further reinforces its reputation for safety, Philippine Airlines (PAL) successfully completed its 9th consecutive International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The successful audit showcases nearly two decades of diligent work by PAL in maintaining operational safety. The airline received its first IOSA registration back in 2006, and the latest one will remain valid until April 10, 2025.
IOSA, the internationally recognized safety evaluation system from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), evaluates the operational management and control systems of airlines. Airlines undergo this rigorous audit every two years. It’s so trusted that top government authorities accept it as the gold standard in airline safety assessments.
PAL Express: Echoing the Safety Commitment
Following in PAL’s footsteps, PAL Express also recently passed the IOSA, marking its 5th successful renewal. The subsidiary first joined the IOSA Registry in 2014, and its current registration extends until March 28, 2025.
President of PAL Express, Rabbi Vincent L. Ang, praised the dedication and professionalism of the entire organization. He mentioned their unwavering commitment to maintaining a safety culture, a commitment shown by their consistent success in the regular audits.
Safety at the Forefront

The successful IOSA audits of both PAL and PAL Express indicate their adherence to safety standards in various domains, including flight operations, aircraft engineering and maintenance, organization and management, operational control and flight dispatch, cabin operations, ground handling operations, cargo operations, and security management.
These safety audits are not optional for airlines within the PAL Group. To maintain its IATA membership, these airlines are required to complete the IOSA re-certification every two years.
