In the upcoming week, Philippine Airlines (PAL) is ready to welcome an Airbus A321ceo aircraft to its fleet, n a move aimed at improving network reliability. With a seating capacity of 199 passengers arranged in a dual-class configuration, this single-aisle jet is the first in a series of aircraft that PAL is gearing up to acquire or reactivate in the forthcoming months. These aircraft will play a vital role in PAL’s domestic and regional routes, thereby enhancing the airline’s operational capacity.
Upcoming Additions to the PAL Fleet
PAL is also expecting the addition of an Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft with a capacity of 363 seats and a De Havilland Dash 8-400NG aircraft, which can accommodate 86 passengers. The Airbus A330-300 will cater to medium-haul routes while the De Havilland Dash 8-400NG will be utilized for PAL’s inter-island operations.
The airline is actively negotiating to secure even more aircraft, indicating an upward trend in its expansion plans. PAL is also in constant communication with suppliers and service partners to reactivate more aircraft that have been idle for extended periods. This is primarily due to delays in obtaining replacement engines and parts caused by global supply chain interruptions, a challenge shared by the worldwide airline industry.
Commitment to Customer Satisfaction and Safety
PAL is leaving no stone unturned to ensure service and to meet the increasing demand for travel. “We are taking various actions to boost our fleet count and enable us to meet the continuing surge in travel demand while minimizing delays and cancellations,” stated Christoph Gaertner, PAL’s Vice President for Network Planning. He also highlighted PAL’s measure of reducing some frequencies on a number of routes to ensure high reliability in the future. The airline is working closely with suppliers, aircraft, and engine manufacturers on initiatives to increase efficiency without compromising on safety, its topmost priority.
Embarking on a Journey to Modernization
PAL recently firmed up the purchase of nine new Airbus A350-1000 long-haul aircraft. These will serve its signature routes to North America and potentially Europe. With a seating capacity of 380, these new-generation jets are slated for delivery in 2025. The A350-1000 acquisition will place PAL on the path towards having one of the youngest and most modern widebody fleets in Asia.
Despite the ongoing aircraft parts supply chain issues, PAL remains undeterred and continues to increase their fleet, starting with this reactivated A321ceo. This strategic move aims to reduce flight delays and cancellations caused by technical difficulties with aircraft. One can only hope that they will be able to add more aircraft in the near future, particularly widebody ones.
