Showing Appreciation for Your Cabin Crew

Just recently, a friend of mine and fellow DJ, Ron Poe, posted on social media about how he gives treats to all the cabin crew on his flights. His post was very much appreciated by cabin crew members, in fact, some even said they had received treats from him. It’s truly a great way to show appreciation for your hardworking cabin crew, especially after flying multiple sectors, and I am sure there are some who would want to do the same. While not all may have enough budget to give treats to their crew, they still want to know how they can show some appreciation for their cabin crew.

Well, first, you don’t really have to do the same thing DJ Ron Poe does. In fact, there are ways to show how you appreciated your crew’s service which do not require money. Allow me to run them down.

Send in a Commendation to Their Airline

A written commendation is one of the best ways to show appreciation for your cabin crew and it doesn’t cost a thing. All it needs is either your mobile device or a pen and paper. You can write a letter to the airline about your wonderful experience with your cabin crew that day via traditional pen and paper, or you may send a message via the airline’s social media. You may even email the airline to express your appreciation for your cabin crew. Please do not forget to include the name of the crew members, flight details, your name, and of course, other contact details. Sometimes, the airline might get back to you to ask further questions. If you use traditional pen and paper to write your commendation, make sure you submit it to the lead cabin crew or purser.

A commendation form gives the crew more merits, and most of the time, the airline acknowledges the crew’s efforts. It goes a long way for the crew’s future promotion and for the new ones, their regularization.

A Note of Gratitude

A short note of gratitude written on a piece of paper or even a paper napkin makes an impact on the cabin crew. Even after a tiring day, receiving a short note that says “thank you for such a wonderful flight” really touches them. It makes their day brighter and inspires them further to be better in every flight. These notes of gratitude to the cabin crew matter a lot to them, just as your safety on board matters to them.

Saying Thank You as You Exit

A simple gesture of greeting them back and saying “thank you” with a genuine smile is another way of showing appreciation to your cabin crew. While crew members are used to being ignored by passengers boarding and deplaning, it really matters to them that you greet them back and say thank you sincerely and genuinely as you deplane.

Little Treats Will Do

Just like DJ Ron Poe, if you have an extra budget, yes, treats will make them happy, especially after flying a number of sectors. Being a cabin crew is tiring, especially for full flights with a lot of sectors. A few pastries or “pasalubongs” from the nearby Pasalubong shop will definitely make them happy. It does not have to be expensive; it just has to come from the heart.

But the greatest way to show your cabin crew appreciation is by listening to them, following their instructions, and showing them respect. Smiling back at your cabin crew matters too. Acknowledging their presence and authority on board is a way of showing them appreciation, as you understand that these crew members are primarily concerned about your safety.

Is it okay to give a monetary tip to the cabin crew? Well, most times, they do not accept tips, but if you can persuade them to accept your tip, then why not. So here are some ways of showing appreciation to your cabin crew. It need not be too expensive; they just have to come from your hearts.
