Southwest Airlines Celebrates Shark Week with Special Fin Flights

Southwest Airlines has once again partnered with Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” for a summer full of exciting and unique experiences. Celebrating the 11th year of this partnership, Southwest Airlines has planned a series of “Fin Flights” and exclusive in-flight content to delight passengers.

The festivities began on July 1, (2024), with a surprise “Fin Flight” to mark the beginning of the Shark Week celebrations. Passengers at Dallas Love Field were treated to a fun Shark trivia game in the gate area, where they received beach balls and sunglasses. The excitement continued as passengers boarded a special flight to Los Angeles (LAX). As a memento of the celebration, they received Shark Week’s iconic fin hats and eye masks. Chompie, the official Shark Week mascot, made a surprise appearance, posing for photos and joining the flight to LAX. Onboard, passengers aged 21 and over were offered a complimentary alcoholic beverage, including the Shark Week Special, featuring a gummy shark garnish. Southwest employees, dressed in special co-branded Shark Week t-shirts, welcomed passengers upon landing at LAX.

Ongoing Celebrations and Exclusive Content

The Shark Week festivities continue with another surprise “Fin Flight” during Shark Week, starting on Sunday, July 7, at 8:00 p.m. Passengers can look forward to more shark-themed fun and giveaways on this special flight.

Throughout July, Southwest passengers can enjoy exclusive Shark Week content via the Inflight Entertainment Portal. Starting July 1, passengers have access to Shark Week On Demand TV series, featuring free episodes. This includes a never-before-seen episode of “Sharktopia,” available ahead of its network premiere on July 7.
