AirAsia Philippines has been hiring flight attendants for the past few months, and they continue to do so. In fact, they are the first local airline to hold a cabin crew walk-in interview for 2023. In the recent one, more than 900 people applied, but only 37 made the cut. While many do really want to become All-Stars, there are only slots for a few. Overstaffing is not good at all. Observing the recent cabin crew hiring events, I would like to share what it takes to become a cabin crew member for AirAsia Philippines.
These are based on my personal observations as well as interviews with top executives from AirAsia Philippines. Do you have what it takes to join AirAsia Philippines’ cabin crew? So, let’s go through what they’re looking for in addition to the stated requirements and qualifications.
What does AirAsia look for?
Before giving some tips and advice, allow me first to share what AirAsia Philippines cabin crew recruiters are looking for among the applicants.
- A strong visual impact – AirAsia Allstars are well-known for their visual impact. They are eye-catching! They know how to carry themselves professionally. They know how to carry themselves professionally. All-stars are also known to stand out. An Allstar may stand out in a crowd but they should be able to command respect as well.
- Fun and friendly nature – You cannot be dull or have “no personality” if you want to be an AirAsia Allstar cabin crew member. You must be someone who finds enjoyment in all you do. Allstars are also approachable. They can converse readily with persons they do not know personally. They are the sort of people who can passionately exchange stories with someone they don’t know well.
- Loyal and dedicated – I understand that we all have different objectives and aspirations in life, however AirAsia Philippines is searching for employees that are committed and dedicated to the firm. They do not favor applicants who consider AirAsia as a “second option”. They prefer personnel and crew that follow business standards (such as the 3-month resignation notice) and do not take the airline for granted. AirAsia Philippines desire crew and personnel that wants to grow with the firm, and not someone who would treat the airline as “panakip butas”.
- Good communication skills – Being an AirAsia Allstar requires not just a stunning face, but also excellent communication abilities. I observed a number of attractive candidates at the most recent recruitment event. However, when they were interviewed, many of them were rejected owing to inadequate communication skills. Some cannot articulate their views clearly, others cannot be understood, particularly in English, which is crucial, some are too bashful, and some appear arrogant. As an Allstar, you must be able to interact well with your passengers because you will be doing so frequently as cabin crew.
- Confident and brave – Yes, the word “brave” has been added. An Allstar is more than simply a passenger customer care; an Allstar is also a highly qualified safety specialist. You cannot be worried on the job because, in an emergency, you must be able to think clearly and act fast. Being nervous can impair your judgment, which is dangerous in an emergency. You must also maintain your confidence when dealing with passengers. You must command respect, especially as an enforcer of safety standards in the airplane cabin. As an Allstar, passengers must be able to entrust their lives to you.
- Can adopt to various personalities – As an Allstar, you must be able to adapt to hundreds of distinct personalities in each flight. You cannot choose the type of passenger you will serve. There will be some who are pleasant and those who are not.
Tips and advice for the next AirAsia Philippines cabin crew recruitment day
Now that I’ve shared with you what AirAsia Philippines looks for in Allstar cabin crew candidates, here are some tips and advice you can do or attempt to help you prepare for the forthcoming AirAsia cabin crew walk-in interview events. The majority of these may be studied and practiced.
Be aware of the grooming standards of AirAsia Philippines. AirAsia cabin crew follow a strict grooming standard. To prepare you for your AirAsia cabin crew recruitment day, try to practice these grooming standards for your get-up and make-up. You do not have to wear something that looks similar to the AirAsia uniform. Anyway, the recruiters can visualize you in a uniform when you stand in front of them.
Give your best in each stage of the interview process. The manner in which you move, talk, and sit should represent your greatest qualities. Recruiters strive to identify those in line and those who already stand out even when sitting before interviewing you. Keep an eye on how you sit and walk. Once again, visual impact is important. You must stand out in order to get noticed. You must be recognizable right away. Smile all of the time, not only when you’re called.
Talk to co-applicants. Remember that you have to exhibit a fun and friendly personality which is an important characteristic when you are an AirAsia Allstar. Make friends with people around you. Smile and exchange stories with them. Do not forget that recruiters are already observing you the moment you enter the venue.
Do not show nervousness nor even tell your recruiters that you are nervous. If facing recruiters makes you nervous, what more during an actual emergency when you are already a cabin crew. While it is normal to be nervous during an interview, you must be able to conceal this well and remain confident. Do not fidget in front of your recruiters. I noticed this from a lot of applicants who did not make it.
Practice your communication skills. Do not memorize your answers, and do not try to answer questions as though you are in a beauty pageant. Recruiters try to observe you from the point of view of a passenger, and not as a pageant judge. They have to be able to understand what you say. You have to be able to communicate in English well because not all your passengers understand Filipino. Some are foreign tourists and English will be the universal language. Read books aloud and brush up your grammar. These can be learned. Make sure you can be heard well. Practice at home.
Show confidence, and be confident. Being an Allstar has no room for being shy. You have to maintain confidence throughout the recruitment process, particularly in the group dynamics portion. You cannot come out too shy nor too cocky also. Come in between.
Participate well in the group dynamics. Group dynamics is done to see how you work as a team member because as a flight attendant, you work with a team on board. You cannot be too overpowering, and all the more not doing anything.
Becoming an AirAsia Philippines cabin crew is not a race of who gets their first, but it’s all about getting their. Focus on just the goal. Do not think of co-applicants as competitors. Your only competitor is yourself.
Good luck to all our aspirants who dream of becoming an AirAsia Philippines Allstar cabin crew soon!
