AirAsia Malaysia Boosts Chinese Market Connectivity

AirAsia Malaysia is set to expand its presence in the Chinese market by resuming direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Shantou starting June 16, and introducing a new nonstop route from Kota Kinabalu to Beijing Daxing, commencing on July 1. These strategic moves aim to cater to the growing demand for connectivity between Malaysia and China, as the latter remains a popular destination for Chinese tourists.

Kuala Lumpur-Shantou and Kota Kinabalu-Beijing Daxing Routes

In June, the Kuala Lumpur-Shantou route will be served twice a week, with the frequency increasing to four times a week in July. On the other hand, the Kota Kinabalu-Beijing Daxing route will operate seven times a week. AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said, “The two routes will contribute about 10% additional capacity to our China network, and we remain committed to expanding the connectivity to Malaysia further, which is a popular destination for Chinese tourists.”

Asmat also noted that Shantou has been one of AirAsia Malaysia’s most popular destinations, with the airline flying approximately 340,000 guests to and from the coastal city until the end of 2019.
