easyJet Sets Sights High with 157 New Airbus Aircraft

easyJet is charting a new course in its operational journey after the airline’s shareholders have recently approved a landmark deal for an impressive 157 additional aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family. This fleet expansion includes 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo planes, marking a huge step in the airline’s growth and modernization efforts.

In an astute move, easyJet will convert 35 A320neo jets from its existing order to the larger A321neo variant. This decision aligns with the airline’s flexible strategy to meet evolving passenger demands and optimize its fleet composition.

Financial Details of the Acquisition

Initially announced in October 2023, easyJet’s substantial order is estimated to cost around $19.9 billion. The airline is also in exclusive discussions with CFM International for the engines of these new aircraft, underlining its commitment to a comprehensive fleet upgrade.

Following the shareholders’ approval, Airbus officially confirmed the deal on December 19, 2023. Christian Scherer of Airbus lauded easyJet’s choice, highlighting how the new Airbus fleet would enhance the airline’s offerings in a highly competitive environment.

This newly confirmed order plays an important role in easyJet’s strategy to replace its A319 planes and overhaul about half of its existing A320ceo aircraft. The airline is set to embark on a journey of rejuvenation and efficiency with these latest additions.
