IAG Solidifies Fleet Expansion for British Airways and Iberia

IAG International Airlines Group is propelling forward with the expansion of its aircraft fleets for both British Airways and Iberia. The airlines group recently affirmed options for six Boeing B787-10s for British Airways, scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026. In addition, IAG transformed one A350-900 option for Iberia.

Choosing the Best for British Airways

IAG, while securing the six Boeing B787-10 options for British Airways, expressed a flexible approach towards financing these sizable acquisitions. “The Group has a range of financing options and will choose the most appropriate financing source closer to the delivery time,” the company stated.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, British Airways currently operates an assortment of Boeing 787s. This includes seven B787-10s, twelve B787-8s, and eighteen B787-9s. Beyond the six newly confirmed -10s, the airline also anticipates the delivery of five more B787-10s from a previous order.

Elevating Iberia’s Capabilities

On the other side of the coin, the conversion of the A350-900 option signifies a noteworthy enhancement for Iberia’s fleet. Iberia’s current A350 collection includes eighteen aircraft, among which is a second-hand unit previously operated by Hainan Airlines and acquired from AerCap. Prior to the recent conversion, Iberia also had three additional A350-900s from Airbus on its order book, along with another ex-Hainan Airlines aircraft from AerCap. IAG still holds options for fifteen more A350-900s.

Unlike British Airways, Iberia does not operate any Boeing B787s. However, British Airways’ Airbus A350 fleet consists of fifteen A350-1000s, demonstrating a diverse aircraft mix within the airlines group.

With these strategic moves, IAG is setting a solid foundation for the continued growth of both British Airways and Iberia. This is not only an investment in the airlines’ respective fleets but also a significant step towards maintaining their competitive positions in the international aviation market.
