In the midst of the renowned Paris Air Show, Philippine Airlines (PAL) finalized a deal with Airbus, firming up the purchase of nine A350-1000 long-range aircraft. The prominent figures at the event were none other than Captain Stanley K. Ng, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Airlines, and Christian Scherer, the Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International at Airbus. Lucio C Tan III, the President and Chief Operating Officer of PAL Holdings Inc., also graced the occasion with his presence.
These state-of-the-art A350-1000 aircraft will be part of Philippine Airlines’ Ultra Long Haul Fleet project, aimed at providing non-stop services from Manila to North America, including the East Coast of the US and Canada. The aircraft will complement the two A350-900s currently serving the airline.
Designed for Comfort and Capacity
In terms of passenger comfort, PAL’s A350-1000s are built to impress. With a capacity of 380 passengers, the aircraft are configured in a three-class layout, featuring distinct cabins for Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class.
Lucio C. Tan III shared his thoughts on the purchase, stating, “At Philippine Airlines, we are committed to offering our passengers the best possible travel experience. These state-of-the-art aircraft will enable us to give them the convenience of non-stop flights on long-range routes in a comfortable passenger cabin where our cabin crew can do what they do best – extend gracious service and world-class Filipino hospitality. The A350-1000 is our ‘Mission Aircraft’ to connect the world and boost the Philippine economy and society.”
Eco-Friendly and Economical
The A350-1000 is not just about comfort and long-range flights; it also plays a crucial role in environmental sustainability. The aircraft uses significantly less fuel than older models of similar size, resulting in a crucial reduction in carbon emissions.
“This order will see PAL operating one of the youngest and most modern widebody fleets in Asia. We selected the A350-1000 to give PAL the power to match capacity closely to predicted demand on both the very longest routes to the North American East Coast but also on our prime trunk routes to the West Coast and potentially to Europe as well. At the same time, the aircraft will use significantly less fuel than older aircraft of a similar size, which also brings an important reduction in carbon emissions,” expressed Captain Stanley K. Ng.
A Game-Changer in Air Travel
The A350-1000 has truly revolutionized the aviation industry with its advanced features and capabilities. The world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft can cover a staggering 9,700 nautical miles or 18,000 kilometers non-stop, setting new standards for intercontinental travel.
The signing of the agreement not only marks a significant moment for Philippine Airlines and Airbus but also signifies a leap forward in the aviation industry’s journey towards sustainability. With the A350-1000s in their fleet, Philippine Airlines will offer their passengers a new level of comfort and service, while taking an environmentally conscious step towards the future.
