Pegasus Airlines Boosts Fleet with 36 New A321neo Aircraft

Pegasus Airlines has decided to take its fleet to new heights by signing an agreement with Airbus to acquire 36 new A321neo aircraft. The decision aligns with the airline’s strategy to revamp its fleet while concentrating on minimizing emissions and maximizing fuel and unit cost savings. Pegasus had earlier tweaked its 2012 Airbus order, which now consists of a total of 114 new aircraft, thanks to changes made in 2017, 2021, and 2022. The company plans to have the 36 newly ordered aircraft, in addition to its existing orders, delivered by the end of 2029.

This new order expands Pegasus Airlines’ original 2012 request for 100 A320/321neo family aircraft from Airbus to a total of 150 aircraft, 108 of which are A321neos.

Pegasus Airlines’ Commitment to Efficiency and Sustainability

The CEO of Pegasus Airlines, Güliz Öztürk, expressed the company’s steadfast commitment to operational efficiency, financial performance, and sustainability in her statement about the agreement. “We embarked on our journey with the belief that everyone has the right to fly and today, we remain equally dedicated to our industry and the world. With these goals in mind, we continue to work diligently and determinedly towards our strategy of fleet modernization, focusing on fuel and unit cost savings, and emission reductions. Our recent agreement with Airbus allows us to add 36 new 239-seater A321neo aircraft, the most efficient aircraft in their class, expanding and modernizing our fleet,” she said.

Öztürk also highlighted that Pegasus Airlines boasts the youngest fleet in Turkey and is among the youngest fleets of global low-cost carriers, with an average age of just 4.5 years. “This efficiency significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions. Besides transforming our fleet with new-generation aircraft, we are also focusing on operational efficiency, using more sustainable aviation fuel, and looking into alternative energy sources as we march towards net zero. From 2023 and beyond, our main goal is to maintain and advance our industry-leading position with our innovative, rational, principled, and responsible approach,” she added.

A New Generation Aircraft

The A321neo is the newest addition to the Airbus medium range single-aisle family and the largest of its kind. Its 239-seat configuration offers considerable capacity utilization benefits. Additionally, its new generation LEAP-1A engines provide noteworthy fuel consumption advantages. Airbus states that the A321neo is 15-20% more efficient in terms of fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to its predecessor models. This is confirmed by the operational performance of the A320/321neo series aircraft.

Pegasus Airlines’ move to incorporate the A321neo aircraft into its fleet signifies a step forward in the airline’s ongoing journey towards efficiency and sustainability.
